From Self-Awareness to Collective Leadership
Cultivating Inner Strength Through Movement, Mindfulness, and Relational Awareness
This workshop series has initially been designed for students but can be catered to the specific needs of other participant groups.
Participants will explore resilience as a somatic, emotional, and relational practice, grounded in the understanding that the body is an intrinsic aspect of identity, perception, and change. Through embodied mindfulness, movement exploration, and reflective dialogue, students will develop self-awareness, adaptive coping skills, and relational intelligence.
Relevance
This proposal aims to foster personal and collective resilience through experiential, non-cognitive learning. It integrates:
- Somatic learning. Embodiment as a tool for self-regulation and insight.
- Reflective practice. Structured journaling and group sharing.
- Relational dynamics. Boundaries, leadership, and collaboration.
- Integration of Inner Development Goals (IDGs), particularly:
- Being: Self-awareness, self-acceptance
- Presence: Mindfulness, grounding
- Relating: Empathy, compassion, connectedness
- Acting: Courage, perseverance, optimism
- Collaborating: Communication, trust
The series culminates in a creative exhibition piece for students to visualise their communal learnings.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop series, students will:
- Develop somatic awareness as a foundation for emotional regulation and resilience.
- Identify personal behavioural and movement patterns and their impact on well-being and relationships.
- Practice adaptive coping strategies (e.g., grounding, activation, or calming techniques) for different contexts.
- Explore relational resilience through boundaries, active listening, and collaborative leadership.
- Integrate insights into daily life through reflective journaling, intention setting and a communal art piece for the final exhibition.

Structure & Sessions Overview
This workshop series consists of 4 sessions. Each session is 3 hours and includes:
- Opening circle: Grounding and intention-setting.
- Experiential activity: Embodied exercises, movement, or mindfulness.
- Reflective dialogue: Group sharing, journaling prompts, and connections to IDGs/pillars of resilience.
- Closing: Anticipation for the week ahead, with a practice assignment to apply learnings.
Session 1: How are you… really?
Theme: Embodiment as the Foundation of Resilience
Focus:
- Introduction to embodiment: The body as a gateway to self-awareness and neuroplasticity.
- Body awareness exercises: Mindfulness techniques (e.g., body scans, breathwork, or gentle movement) to assess one’s current state.
- State regulation: Practical tools to shift between calm (e.g., diaphragmatic breathing) and activation (e.g., dynamic movement).
- Individual learning goals: Students articulate personal intentions for the workshop series.
- Practice for the week: Experiment with one somatic tool and journal about its effects (ME Journal prompt: “How did my body respond to this practice? What did I notice about my mental state?”).
Session 2: How are you… most of the time?
Theme: Patterns of Being: Movement as a Mirror of Behaviour
Focus:
- Reflection on Session 1: Share insights from journaling and practice.
- Movement patterns: Explore how habitual postures, gestures, or rhythms influence behavioral tendencies.
- Contextual influence: Discuss how environments (e.g., stress, social settings) shape these patterns.
- Practice for the week: practice a movement exercise that corresponds to the behavioural aspect you would like to develop. Observe how you respond to it and if it evokes emotional triggers.
Session 3: How do you relate?
Theme: Resilience in Relationships: Boundaries, Listening, and Presence
Focus:
- Reflection on Session 2: Share observations about movement/behavioural patterns and past week’s practice.
- Relational embodiment:
- Boundaries: Physical exercises (e.g., solo and partner work).
- Listening: Active listening
- Conflict simulation: Students practice embodied assertiveness (e.g., grounding stance for difficult conversations).
- Practice for the week: Apply one relational tool in a real-life interaction.
Session 4: How do you lead and follow?
Theme: Collective Resilience: Leadership, Agency, and Integration
Focus:
- Reflection on Session 3: Share experiences with relational practices.
- Leadership embodiment:
- Leading/following exercises: Partner or group activities (e.g., blindfolded guidance, contact improvisation) to explore trust and adaptability.
- Values in action: Discuss how personal values (from the ME Journey) manifest in leadership styles.
- Integration:
- Group reflection: “What is one insight from this series that will change how you navigate challenges?”
- Future commitments: Students identify one resilient habit to carry forward.
